Island Transport by helenmoss

Island Transport

Not a new picture; I just replaced the original of this because it looked so dark could hardly make out the figures, so I brightened it up a bit.

We went to a lovely island called Koh Jum for a couple of days. We took the ferry - a bigger version of the long-tail boat in this picture - for the hour's crossing. The harbour was on the other side of the island fro m the beach bungalows where we were staying and we completed the journey along very bumpy roads, all piled in the back of a pick-up truck, which seemed to be the only taxi around. We spent the afternoon on the, just a few steps from our bungalows. As dusk approached, this boat drew up onto the beach and several passengers disembarked. Long-tail boats are a wonderful form of transport; a long pole extends from the back of the wooden boat, with an engine strapped to one end and and a propellor to the other. They carry people between the many islands dotted around the Andaman Sea; and not just people, but their possessions too; our boat home next day had three motorbikes balanced on the front of it! This was such a wonderful, peaceful place. After our evening stroll we all retired to the lovely beach bar for dinner and a round or two of Chang beers.
I had no idea where you were talking about so I had to go look it up! How exotic! I have always wanted to go to Thailand but it doesn't look good for ever getting there. Oh, well, I have people like you to share with me! Thank you!
