Kings College chapel is one of the most famous buildings in Cambridge. It's fantastically amazingly spectacular. And very very old. But on the lawn, in front of this magnificent example of human achievement, stands a colossal chestnut tree. It is also fantastically amazingly spectacular, especially when its candelabra blossoms are in bloom. And it's very very old too. It looks as if it would like to grow even taller and outstrip those towers.
I have to admit I took this last Thursday, but used the cricket picture instead that day, but wanted to post this one too while the chestnut trees still in flower. The picture had an old-fashioned look, so I decided to go with the flow and add the sepia effect. The two guys talking (one in straw boater) are punt touts! They walk around town trying to encourage tourists to buy tickets to go punting on the river. it was freezing cold, so they didn't have many takers! "There are blankets on the boats" they insisted, when people pointed this out to them.
This photo also features my trusty purple bike - last one on the right on the railings - the one with the plastic bag stylishly covering hte saddle in case of rain!
Oh Helen ... wow! I would LOVE to see this ... both the cathedral and the tree! I love your description of both of them as being "fantastically amazingly spectacular"! Amen! And I love your story about the two guys.
This is the sort of sight that would have tourists snapping pictures from every angle! Glad to see it's appreciated by the locals, too! You're right about choosing the sepia tone...the guy in the boater definitely gives it a vintage look!
I love the way you've allowed the scene to develop and included the people in the picture. It adds so much to the story. My son will be delighted to see the boater - he wears one to school and for all his 21st century attitudes thinks it's great.
Tell the touts if they can sing Chinese opera I'll take them! lol
