It wasn't meant to be a very long walk this morning; maybe an hour or so, then home to scale the North Face of the Ironing Mountain (while flicking between Wimbledon and World Cup on TV). But I was following a path along the river near Orwell and found that a golf course seemed to have cut off part of the footpath, so I had a choice between battling through a jungle of head-high nettles (I was wearing shorts!) and a four mile detour. I opted for the nettles, plus a scramble down to walk IN the river for a while and then back up another nettle-armoured bank - to find myself just where I started - so I then did the four-mile detour anyway, and suddenly it was a three-hour walk. When a border collie looks at you with "are we nearly there yet?" look on their face, you know you've covered a lot of ground!!
My legs are STILL tingling from nettle stings. And as for the ironing, I didn't even reach Base Camp, let alone the summit! But I'd rather be looking these lovely wild scabious flowers scattered all through the field-margins, buzzing with happy bees than at a pile of neatly pressed shirts!
Love today's beautiful photo and with a busy bee no less...can imagine a nice cool bath might be in order for you tonight. I just looked up the nettle to see what it looked like...I thought I knew but was not sure...funny (not really funny, but you know what I mean) it mentioned in the article that nettles are especially distinctive for many reasons and that if you are wearing shorts when you encounter them, you will certainly understand why they are so distinctive! http://www.wildmanstevebrill.com/Plants.Folder/Nettle.html
Ooo, he's great, look at his fuzzy coat, they always make me happy!! Ugh nettles, tingly legs, ironing......argh like some horror film!!! I also had that same mountain of ironing, a good weeks or more worth, it's been too sunny, but Wimbledon did help and NO MORE school shirts EVER, yippee!!
Leaping Lizards -- 3 hour walk -- WOW !!!!!!
We have replace Ironing with Steaming -- you can get done in a fraction of the time. Then you only have to iron creases for those items that need creases.
