Very Narrow Pipes by helenmoss

Very Narrow Pipes

I'm on a very tight schedule over the next few months with my current writing project (I'm not even going to say what it is because it gives me palpitations just to see it in words). Now back from holiday (yes, I did take it with me!) it's really hitting home. I've been at my desk all day, while the rest of the household have been re-zoning the house with room-swaps and decorating projects (something else I daren't even look at!).

The only good thing about this photo is the beautiful ring; it was Grandma's engagement ring. I love having it (thanks, Mum). It reminds me of Grandma whenever I see it - which on days like today- when my hands have hardly left the keyboard- is a lot!

"When you are writing time travels fast but through very narrow pipes." As soon as I read this line in Black Swan Green by David Mitchell, it struck me as capturing the effect perfectly - at least, this is exactly how it feels to me! I may be misquoting the line slightly as I forgot to bookmark it at the time and haven't been able to find it again without re-reading the entire book!
Your grandmother's ring is really beautiful and how nice that you get to wear it every day. I'm sure she is smiling down on you right now knowing how much meaning it has for you. Love the processing here...and it looks like you used the cinematography or cinescope(not sure the term?) effect ..Theresa Reagan used this effect today also... http://365project.org/tee62/kesley-2011
You both used it very effectively...something I have never been able to find a good use for...yet ;-) Good luck finishing up your project!

Wonderful picture! I really like this perspective! I understand how difficult it is to write sometimes. I hope everything goes okay!

I know we all loved learning about the publication of your last book, so it's exciting to be looking over your shoulder as you go that route again! We'll wait patiently for your news at a later date, but I promise not to mention that again until you're ready ;-) (Best wishes for great inspiration!)

I love the ring--so nice that you are able to think of her with it. And yes, as a fellow writer I can vouch for the hours seeming like minutes! I do about 6 hours a day until I pick up my children from school and it seems like I blink and the day is over.
Re: comment--okay, I thought fairy tale spider was some spider I hadn't heard of! I was picturing all kinds of things!

I love your ring !
I think you asked about how I matted my picture ....if not excuse me but I run an action in photoshop where I mat the picture then I can reduce the size of the whole image to fit so I can upload it to 365. I hope that is what you were asking?

I love the ring and I love that it such a close connection to your grandmother. When you are on a keyboard so much, it must be some kind of gentle reminder to be gentle with yourself! Writing is so difficult! I admire you so much!
