The field was abuzz with bees when I took the dogs out this morning. I crawled around on my hands and knees for ages trying to get picture of a bumble-bee taking off or coming in to land - I'd already planned my title for today;s picture: The Flight Of The Bumble-bee. But the bumble-bees weren't playing the game. They are really speedy little beasties (and my reaction times and/or shutter speed too slow!). So I shifted my attention to hoverflies. Now, I had a chance! That hovering action is much more my pace. I really like hover-flies; in their yellow-and-black stripes, they're totally harmless but are trying to pass themselves off as mean-and-moody wasps or hornets - they remind me of four-year-old boys dressing up in army camo!
Your low focal point is perfect for this photo! You captured the bees so well, I have to wonder how many more surrounded you as you got down in the grass! The extent to which you and our many photographers go makes looking through all the pictures so worthwhile!
Just popped by to say I saw your 2 photos in the where I live thread. I think you really summed up your area so well. I've only lived here in East Anglia for 11 years but the open skies and coast line are just the best place to be!
The last line: they remind me of four-year-old boys dressing up in army camo... Awww that is just so sweet, Spot on!
