Buzz Off! by helenmoss

Buzz Off!

Walking the dogs this morning, I discovered why so many of the fields between Eversden and Wimpole have been put down to clover. Wimpole ( a stately home, with a farm on the estate, run by the National Trust) have installed a set of bee hives - and the clover will make beautifully scented honey. I ventured as close as I dared and ducked down to get a nice shot of a few of the hives through the clover - and that's when I realised why it's not a good idea to take two hyperactive border collies out on any kind of mission requiring stealth or discretion. They charged up to see what I was doing, bowled me over, bounded to the beehives, stuffed their snouts into the hives, and whipped the bees up into a frenzy with their waggy great tails....I managed to get this shot moments before the three of us ran down the hill off at high speed, pursued by an angry swarm...there was something of the Winnie The Pooh about the whole incident!

I thought we'd all escpaped unscathed, but just noticed Storm has been stung just above his eye - he's looking very sorry for himself...
hahah great story.....no wonder you are a writer! Lovely shot through the clover.

What a funny tale & I can just imagine you all running down the hill !! This is a really pretty picture & I didn't notice the hives properly until I saw the full photo. Great focus & a lovely angle !

@snowy he's a bit swollen above one eye but doesn't seem bothered by it. it was a bit scary - especially as a bee caught caught in the hood of my sweatshirt so I was trying to take that off as I was running away, but I had the dog leads looped over my shoulder on top of it! I don't think there was anyone around to see it, thanks goodness, otherwise I couldn imagine it appearing on YouTube!

Lovely shot, we visited Wimpole Hall earlier in the year, they have a whole setup of beehives whereby you can see inside the hive and also see the honeycombs being 'made'. Mind you I suppose Storm wouldn't want to be that close again!! Yes, I can see the similarities to a Winnie the Pooh story. Fav'd
