22 degree halo around the sun ( 25 points Kat ). I was unable to successfully capture a transient sun dog earlier ( another 20 points ) it is a substandard image.
Great image lovely capture fav for me :)

@terryliv Poppo, I am a cloud nerd,if you hadn't guessed, points tallied for cloud phenomena . I scored 45 today for the halo and sun dog. Sun dogs are large spots of light that can appear on one or both sides of the sun :-)

@hermann So what is the 22 deg halo you refer to

Just had to post my sundog after seeing your pic. Love the positioning of the halo with the tree and the wispy clouds. Fav for me. :)

Magnificent halo. Is this caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere?
David got a brilliant photo of a sun dog a while ago. We were driving along in the car and he ground to a halt to get the picture. No wonder I have neck problems. ha ha.

@terryliv Find something here Poppo......www.goggle.com. Probably easier than my humble explanation from my Cloud Collectors Handbook :-))

Ah, but sun dogs only happen when there are crystals in the sky right? has to be the right combination of cold sky, moisture, and sun.

Love this aura effect! Amazing, mysterious sand beautiful!

@ibt @dide @appsie @wordpixman @graemestevens @gilbertwood @darthkitty @ninaganci @onewing Yes Babs, the sunlight is refracted through the ice crystals of thin layers of clouds, my sun dog photo was rather substandard @alistercachia @ctgal @adambralston I believe so Adam @congaree Thank you all for the lovely comments and favs, always appreciated :-)
