This tree is about 11 miles from home and I pass it a couple of times a week. Today I stopped, got out of the car, and photographed it. I can't help but wonder how it got that curve in its trunk.

Retired educator - taught mathematics in high school, went back to graduate school, worked in research labs, and finally went back and taught computer science...
We have a tree similar to that in our town. The town actually dug it up and turned it so it wouldn't block the sidewalk. That's a very interesting tree.
Very interesting. I took a photo or two of a tree with a big curve like this near my home. It has since fallen and broken. I am interested to hear what you learn.
@laurentye Thank you Lauren, @pattibenson Thank you PJ, @triplescoop Thank you Andrea, @highway266 Thank you Ted, @sourkraut Thank you Lina, @vernabeth Thank you Beth, @scooter Thank you Scooter, @kellyjo26 Thank you Kelly, @naomi Thank you Naomi,
I apoligise for the the general thanks, they all are really appreciated. I have been driving the past 7 hours to go to a nephews graduation tomorrow. PJ it does look like something right out of Dr. Seuss; Ted, even at this age if I had more time I would play on it - kids must love it; It definitely has a very interesting shape.
What an interesting thing to have happen.. Makes me really wonder what could have caused this.. I'm glad you decided to stop and take a picture.. It's really an interesting subject for sure..
