This old hand-painted map is part of the park sign that was destroyed during Hurricane Florence last fall. My son's Eagle Scout project is to build a new sign, including this map, if possible. It was in rough shape because it washed down river several miles. was covered in mud and scratched up pretty badly. But, after the Boy Scouts washed and scrubbed it several times, it was only slightly better. Some of the scratches were severe and sections of the white paint was worn pretty badly. It took me over 7 hours of painting with a tiny artist brush and a small edging brush to make this sign usable again (It's 4 feet by 8 feet). At lunch time, I had to ice my hand because it was hurting. I'm going to need to do this again at bedtime.
That was a labor of love if I ever heard of one. Take good care of that hand now and make sure that Eagle Scout of yours repays you with a special treat for having such a great Scout Mom!
