248 - Looking along the footpath from the main entrance to the Museum Gardens towards the Yorkshire Museum, with this magnificent tree providing an enormous splash of autumn colour.
The ten-acre botanical Museum Gardens were planted in the 1830s, when the Yorkshire Philosophical Society opened the museum.
The gardens are a listed Botanical Garden and contain many varieties of trees, deciduous and evergreen, native and exotic and were laid out to show off the buildings and plant specimens as they were introduced.
The Yorkshire Museum was one of the first purpose built museums in the country. It recently underwent a £2million refurbishment, and contains a fascinating selection of displays, with a particularly fine archaeology display
Thank you all for your comments, I appreciate each and every one.
The shot was taken about an hour before sunset, and for anyone visiting York I can recommend visits to both the gardens and the museum. When the weather gets bad I may include shots from this and other York museums in my project.
