Before we set of for Rotterdam we visited Kinderdijk. Kinderdijk is now a UNESCO World heritage site and many tourist from all over the world visit. There are 19 windmills. When I was a kid, my dad and I just went over there on our bicycles with out paying anything.
Anyway, the information center was really nice and they had a fun interactive game. Even my son and his friend, both 16 year olds, liked it - often they find these things childish... !
Just beautiful. As I understand it they no longer have as many windmills as they had years ago. At least that is what our tour guide in Amsterdam told us.
@louannwarren I think in the Netherlands in general they have less windmills, but in Kinderdijk it has been the same for a long time. I seem to have heard that once there were 20, but after some "Googling" I found a video from 1963 clearly stating that there were 19. 8 on each side of the bigger stream and 3 very close by.
