Strange tree.... by ingrid01

Strange tree....

and a strange fruit! This tree is in my front yard and I really would like to know what it is. The skin or scale on the fruit is very hard. The inside smells sweet, but taste bitter.
I made this collage this way, so I can send the picture in the Whats App group. But if one of you have any idea... let me know!
Great collage. But I sure don’t know what it is. Do the birds like it? That’s always my clue that the fruit is edible.

Don’t know what it is but you can download an app on your phone to find out what species it is : you take a picture and they immediately give you the name !

@louannwarren the skin/scale is too hard, so the birds love the tree, but are not interested in the fruit. Even when it falls it stays closed. To break it you have to really smash it on the stones.

@wakelys will let you know when I have an answer!

@cocobella I had the app (Picture this) and it is great for most trees and plants, but didn't give me the right info for this. Besides, after a free week it is a paid app...

Two ladies in the "hike-whats app-group" knew the tree/fruit. The first lady used to live in Sri Lanka and made jam from the fruit, but didn't know the name. The second lady is Indian and calls it a "Woodapple tree" or "Indian bael". Here is the link with some info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aegle_marmelos

@ingrid01 well isn’t that something? I can’t imagine making jelly, the fruit is so hard to break open. Learned something new today!
