Google tells me that this is one of the older mosques in Muscat. It opened in 1985 and is very pretty. I really like the green around it. It is like an "oasis" in a busy area.
Tomorrow I'll post another picture of it taken a little later when the lights came on.
this i recognize even though some updates were obviously done over the 30 some years. it was once 'tourist' attraction as it was opulent inside and out. mr al-zawawi was once the most powerful man in Oman as he was a senior advisor to the sultan. i think he was the one with a really big mansion and the fence was allegedly painted with real 24 karat gold and a few locals and migrant workers were jailed for trying to scrape off the gold layers.
