There are so many mosques here in Oman and they are all different and pretty. So after living a year here (about 1.5 years ago) I decided to try to photograph as many as possible and make a book when we move back to Houston this summer.
Every time I photograph a mosque I add the location in Lightroom, (the idea is to put maps in my book of where the mosque is). I also google for more info. Most mosques have no info.
But... I found a website with 8 mosques that, according to this website are "architectural wonders". I already knew and had photos of 5 of these mosques.
Al Khor Mosque was missing, but I was happy to be able to add it as we co-incidentally found it during our little trip last Saturday to Old Muscat. It is located just around the corner of Al Alam palace
According to the website it is also know as Masjid Al Shuhadaa (the Mosque of the Martyrs) because it held lots of funerals of Omanis who died fighting the Portuguese out of the Omani lands. It is also called the “Family Mosque” as several senior members of the Royal Family pray in it.
Rather unique!
