I've had a horsey kind of week with mare's tails on Sunday and Coltsfoot today.
I saw this seedhead in the park and looked it up when I got home because the flowers look a lot like dandelions but this definitely doesn't look like a dandelion clock. I discovered it's Coltsfoot, which is a member of the daisy family. An old name for Coltsfoot was Filius ante patrem (the son before the father), because the golden flowers appear and wither before the leaves are produced.
It was quite hard to photograph because there was just a whisper of a breeze but that was enough to disturb the seeds so I had to be quick!
