The bluebells at Rannerdale in the Lake District are unusual because they grow on the open hillside, not in the shelter of a woodland. They stretch as far as the eye can see, it's an amazing sight and smell. Photos don't really do them justice.
The weather wasn't great today but the walk from Buttermere to Rannerdale and back was lovely. I was surprised that there weren't more people here, not complaining though, it was quite nice to have the place to ourselves (other than the sheep!)
@craftymeg thanks for your comment. It's definitely worth stopping for, from afar it looks like the hills just have a blueish tinge, when you get closer you'll see they're covered in a carpet of bluebells.
