We went to Eshaness in the north west part of Shetland today for a walk along a spectacular part of the coastline. There are high cliffs, sea stacks, caves and geos all the way along for more than 2 miles and plenty of sea birds as well.
We've seen quite a few puffins on our walks in Orkney and Shetland, but they've either been quite far away or sitting in places that were hard to photograph. I liked where this one was, in amongst the thrift flowers looking out on the deep blue sea. We saw a lot of puffins today and watched them for ages flying around and fishing in the sea.
This one was just a few feet away from us, not at all bothered that we were there.
We've been making the most of the longest day, the sun is rising already and the birdies are all singing outside. It's called 'simmer dim' here, there is no proper darkness, particularly tonight when there's a full moon and no cloud.
Thanks for all the comments on recent photos, it's much appreciated.
Wonderful shot, beautiful little bird. They do have their own special character. You are making me very jealous with all these shots from up there, regretting not going now.
I see you have been bird watching too. I went to the Farne Islands to shoot mine. Its wonderful seeing all those birds close up isn't it? Lovely Puffin shot. Glad you managed to get close enough to this one. They are friendly little birds.
