We watched in amazement as this white tailed eagle swooped down to the water to steal a fish from a gull, then flew back to the nest to feed its chick.
We took a wildlife boat trip around the coast and sea lochs of Lewis. It was prefect, we saw so much but the eagle was the icing on the cake, I'd never seen one of these birds before! The guy who took us out told us this adult male is called Sebastian and has one chick about 9 weeks old.
The white tailed eagle (or sea eagle) is Britain's largest bird of prey, but became extinct here by 1918. It was reintroduced with birds brought in from Norway in the 1980s. They're now breeding in many coastal areas particularly around Scotland and population has increased to about 200, so it's a real success story.
I'm sure I'll be posting more from this trip when I get home and edit more of the photos.
