I was surprised to see this image on the BBC weather report on TV tonight.
There were lots of bird watchers on the beach in New Brighton this morning, curiosity got the better of me so decided to take a look for myself.
As I walked across the beach I saw this lovely rainbow, took the photo and uploaded it to the BBC weather watchers website.
One of the bird watchers helped me to find a Leach's storm petrel and a grey phalarope, they were in the water close to the beach so got some photos. I was grateful because I didn't have a clue what I was looking for! It seems the birds were probably blown off course in the strong winds as they migrated south from the Arctic.
They're very rarely seen in the UK but even so I was really amazed to hear how far people had travelled to see them.
