Red brick close-up

At last an opportunity to finish the One Week Only challenge with the architecture close-up.

This is the Victoria Building at the University of Liverpool, one of the six 'red brick' civic universities, given charters in the early 1900s.

The universities, in industrial towns and cities, focused on teaching practical skills more than pure academic studies like the traditional universities. They were the new kids on the block and the term 'red brick' was quite derogatory at the time. It came from this building, built in 1892, with a distinctive red pressed brick and terracotta decorative dressings.

Today it's the University's art gallery, museum, theatre and cafe.

Really enjoyed this week's challenge, even though it took much longer than a week to get to the end!
A stunning image and fabulous capture and colours. Fav
