Holy cow, that's some bird in your back yard, had it just caught something I can't quite see, incredible shot btw, where you just standing there with your camera at the ready!!??
@jo13 - The photo before shows what he had. I saw him sitting on the fence and went to get my camera. I even took time to change lenses. When I got back to the door, he had shifted and I could see what he had. I think I said bad words. ;)
He is a noble bird and your picture does him justice. Is that an unfortunate smaller bird in his claws? That makes me sorry too; but at least he, like other nonhuman animals, hunts because he has to eat, and not for "sport".
