Year 5 Day 16

Flicker Frustration

I'm trying to figure out the name of my Flicker Friend. No red bar on the back of his head. I want to say Northern Flicker. He appears to be a yellow shafted. I read that there is a broad area where the red shafted and yellow shafted have "had some relations" ;) Could this be one of the results? There is similar Flicker, the Gilded Flicker that lives in Arizona... Obviously, we are not in Arizona, which is why I am inclined to say Northern. Anyone??
Maybe a female. The female we have at my place (yellow shafted) have no red markings. Nice capture, by the way. Great DoF.

@akingjr Thank you! A female was one of my guesses at first but as she got more comfortable with me and would let me get closer, I could see the reddish markings like the mustache that the males have. It's very faint though. I'll happily go worth female. I hope to see a male. She visits often, several times a day now. I've seen a couple farther out from my house but no red markings on them either. It would be nice to know they had mates. @jocee Thank you!

@irishmamacita10 The males around here are very pushy. He often chases the female away from our feeder. Looked like we had the young ones visit yesterday. My wife counted 4 flickers, although I only saw three of them.
