Baltimore by jack4john

Baltimore

in Cork, southern Ireland. on the 20th of June 1631,a horde of Barbary ( not Burbeery, can you imagine) pirates raided Baltimore and took away more than 100 people and sold them into slavery in north Africa. This beacon marks the entrance to the harbour there. Worth a visit if you find yourself in the area.
Fantastic shot, and a very interesting story. Cork was high on my list for a visit. It's even higher now.

I was in Cork last week but we didn’t have time to go to the harbour area...prison yes but must try here next time! Wicked times indeed!

There's such a grand sense of scale here -- what an awful history for the people of that area, but what a beautiful setting.
