Aunt Ruth's rhubarb by jackies365

Aunt Ruth's rhubarb

It is that time of year...this rhubarb was given to me by my cousin after my Aunt Ruth passed away before she sold her house. This is a little different than the kind I grew up with that was quite thick. This is thinner and quite deep red. She said Aunt Ruth grew it for the deeper red color in the things she made with it! Today it went into a strawberry rhubarb pie! Thanks to Aunt Ruth and my cousin Carol : ) By the way, Aunt Ruth was one of the nicest ladies I ever met.
I'm sorry for your loss. Yes, the thin, red kind are the best. I think they are more tender, too.

I love rhubarb. Used to have tons of it in my backyard in Germany.

@melston @californialover @flygirl @hjbenson @vstap thanks everyone. It's definitely a good year for it as it is finally very well established. Now I guess I have to decide to either cook more or freeze it or something!

Such a lovely gift... and the pie does sound delicious. I want to attempt to make a homemade pie. One of my sweet pen pals sent me a very simple apple pie recipe. The crust is what scares me off, though! I'm afraid it won't turn out right and I'll be the only one eating it. Haha

Aunt Ruth's rhubarb is definitely a robust shade of red. Bet the pie this went into looked beautiful thanks to her choice of plants. I imagine this picture will be an sweet memory of your very special aunt.
