this belonged to my brother-in-law. he passed away in 2003. my sister passed away in 2007. they were only married for 7 and a half years but had known each other for much longer. before they were married this camera traveled with him to two tours in the peace corps, traveled on motorcycle across the United States and on bicycle around the entire state of Michigan. After they married they took it to England, Scotland and Ireland (Tim was Irish and kissed the Blarney Stone while there) then on an Alaskan cruise and out west I believe. their plan was to travel when they retired and they did until cancer claimed both of them. I kept this from his belongings and could not find it for the longest time. when looking for something else I found it. it is a Nikon FG. a small film camera that seems to get fairly good reviews. I know nothing about film as the only film I shot was the little 110 cameras back in the day and some polaroid instant cameras. I'm looking forward to learning and may have to ask for some help here on the 365. Tim got great shots with this little pancake 50mm which appears to be in good condition. so I've purchased a new battery and a roll of film. will watch some tutorials and give it a go. I think it looks lovely in the beautiful golden hour light : )
Yes, so many memory and so many losses. I remember the days of film. I photographed my kids with a Nikon FE (I believe). All the best carrying on the tradition!!
I have been meaning to put my dad's old Nikon to use - and some other old cameras I have - I must get my act together.
I think it is wonderful you are going to keep it alive along with the memories of your family :)
great! you could also get a mounting ring to attach the lens to your dslr , if it doesnt fit as it is, not sure about nikon , would be fully manual but might have nice bokeh
Nikon FE its a great camera with a brilliant lens combination, clearly you know your way around a camera using your Nikon D750 Jackie, just take your time with each shot and have fun, I don't know in you have the instructions with it here is a link to a PDF copy http://www.cameramanuals.org/nikon_pdf/nikon_fg.pdf
love the story and may they rest in peace . Get a film ,its so easy to load and get shooting, as you cant't see what you have just shot you get on with the next picture , it is a lot of fum and will keep the spirit of Tim and your Sister alive, and we will look forward to seeing the results.
It's a beautiful image and a wonderful tribute to your brother-in-law and sister. I'm sure you'll enjoy using it and do some great things with it, given its history and your skill!
@amyk@photographycrazy@lyndamcg@annied@kali66@pcoulson@dridsdale@jack4john@pistache@taffy thank you all for the nice comments. I think I am ready to load it up and give it a try. I was wondering if any of you that do film how do you get it processed and do you print or just get the files in digital format? another step that isn't as easy as it used to be!
I think it is wonderful you are going to keep it alive along with the memories of your family :)
