No fishing week would be complete without an image of a fisherman! So, here we are. Our friend Graham, hoping for some luck on the river. He was rewarded for his patience. Both he and hubby caught a salmon yesterday - a 6lber and a 12lber. They are both very happy men, as they don't like a blank week! Catch and release, of course, on the river Dee, so no salmon for dinner. Instead, we went out to a local establishment, Banchory Lodge, and had a beautiful meal of chicken, venison and cod!
In this photo, you can see the stony riverbank in the foreground, but in the background you can see the shoring up which had to be done after the 2015 big flood.
That's a lovely photo. Great point of view and good catch.
It's a totally absorbing activity. My Mum's brothers fished on the Oykel River up north and one of my aunts joined in after watching.
@777margo Not on the river Dee in Scotland, I'm afraid. There has been a lack of salmon for years now, and they are trying to repopulate the river by encouraging anglers to return their catch. I'm not sure it's working though! The flood in 2015 did a lot of damage to the fish stocks too as a lot of the salmon par ended up in fields and never got back into the river. :-(
Must be quite hard to release a lovely salmon back into the river....I expect many are too tempted just to take one home, such a delicious fish to eat...itās not like retuning a carp! Love the line of the rod as it parallels the river bank.
