Famine Memorial, Dublin by jamibann

Famine Memorial, Dublin

I now know how I got ahead of myself when leaving to go on holiday - I had missed a day out! What a twit.

So, this is a filler from our day and a half in Dublin - a very poignant memorial to the people who died during the great potato famine in the mid 19th century, during which approximately 1 million people died and a million more emigrated from Ireland, causing the island's population to fall drastically. @kwind - I remember you posted a very similar image from your Dublin trip.

The EPIC Emigration Museum near this memorial is well worth a visit.
What a moving memorial

Great capture. It’s such an amazing memorial. You’re right about the background distractions though. It’s tricky to get a composition without them. You did well. It was pouring when we were there. The emigration museum was excellent so glad we went.
