I thought it was amusing how the light dusting of snow was creating patterns on the hillside, sticking as it was to certain areas and highlighting them. Standing here we could clearly see the track we'd walked on as well as the patches where heather has been burned to promote new growth and provide fresh tender shoots for the grouse and deer on this estate. At the bottom of the hill, nestling in the Ernan valley, you can see a shooting lodge where weary clients and the gamekeepers can rest and recover from hard days on the hill. All locked up at the moment.
Fantastic patterns!! A wonderful landscape. I just don't like to think of the shooting when its the season!! I was in Yorkshire a couple of years ago and the owner of the cottage forgot to tell me there was a duck shoot - we overlooked two lakes. I had friends drive up for lunch and as we were eating there was shooting going on and ducks falling out of the sky right outside our window. The stuff of nightmares!! You can imagine what the shooting did to my boys!!
