There were large patches of snow still hanging around on Saturday's walk. We thought we'd practise cutting steps with the ice axe when crossing a particularly steep bit. Best to practise when it's not needed then you're in with a hope if you do need it!
The bit of horizon gives a bit of perspective to the slope of this hillside. So does this provide you with a foothold or do you have to pull yourself up the snowy slope with this axe?
@randystreat We actually came down the slope using the ice axe to cut steps for our feet on the way. Not necessary given the snow conditions, but good to practise when the conditions are good.
I expect you are well versed in snow steps but good to practice!
