They've been back at their nest for a few weeks now, but I haven't had time to go hang out with them. I stopped in past yesterday and waited for some action. Mum was on the nest, but flew off a couple of times for a fly round, so I managed to get some shots of her. Dad was in the area, I could hear him, but never saw him. It was too cold for me to stay long. I wonder what they are thinking about the unseasonal cold patch - they came over for summer, after all!
So glad to see them....I’m thinking a good sign they came back...looks like a successful rearing last year then. Is it the same nest, I’m guessing it is as you knew where to look.
@happypat Yep, same nest. We'd seen them both already, when passing in the car one day, so knew they were back. I just finally took the time to stop and climb the hill to my viewpoint and wait for some action.
@onewing This one, I'm told, is an old buzzard's nest which they've converted! Deep cupped, seemingly, which is why I never got to see a chick last year. Don't suppose I will this year either, but I'll be keeping an eye on the adults, and who knows?!
It's great to watch them. Insects are less active when it is cold. Less food means only the strongest chicks will survive. It's a bit brutal but it's the laws of nature.
You captured a perfect moment with this wing spread. I wonder how the animals react to the temp changes too. But my suspicion is that they don't care about it as much as us humans do!
