DNT meets the Red Cuillins by jamibann

DNT meets the Red Cuillins

Saturday was our first experience of walking in the Cuillins of Skye. The mountains there are very different from the Cairngorms where we've done most of our walking so far. This mountain, Bla Bheinn, is the only Munro in the Red Cuillins, hence we started here. We got very lucky with our timing as it was a wet start and the weather improved all the way to the top. Looking over to the horizon, you can see the ridge of the Black Cuillins - another challenge altogether, but one we have on our list for 2022. We will need to do most of these with a guide, as it's essential to find the right routes or you can get into a lot of trouble. The inaccessible pinnacle will be our ultimate challenge as it requires abseiling to descend. Roll on 2022, so we can tick those Munros whilst we are still able!!!
Well done. A lovely image to show your achievements.

Just catching up with your Skye trip, don't know how I missed it. Spent a lot of time in tents and holiday cottages as a child. Can remember sulking all the way up to the top of Bla Bhein. LOL

How fabulous.....you are an awesome pair!!!
My nephew Uisdean Hawthorn, is a 'professional climber'.
He set a record for 'winter running the Cuillin Ridge' in 2018..if you google it you'll see details/video!

He grew up in Glenelg, surrounded by
mountains, but didn't really start climbing seriously until he had completed his joinery apprenticeship!

He's still in hi twenties and has recently been awarded another award in Canada where he's been based for a couple of years.

Awesome relative!! And his mum - my sister Kate is pretty awesome person too. 💛
His dad did a lot of climbing when he was younger!
I'm sure you'll find it interesting after all your Munro adventures.

Oh gee whizz! That's brilliant. Wonderful story of your nephew. Thanks for sharing. We have yet to walk the Cuillin ridge, let alone run it or climb it!!! Following Uisdean on Instagram!
