This is a view from Union Street in Aberdeen, looking across the newly refurbished (and highly controversial) Union Terrace Gardens.
Although the gardens have been open since December, they are not completely finished and so do not look their best. However, I feel sure that they will look beautiful come Spring when the grass is sown and the trees start to gain leaves and colour. Whether or not the whole revamp is worth £23 million is a whole other question and one that I am not qualified to answer.
I do like the opening up of the view here though - looking over to the Central Library on the left, St. Mark's Church in the centre, and His Majesty's Theatre on the right - hence the saying ... Education, Salvation, Damnation. The statue of William Wallace points towards the theatre whilst his gaze is firmly over Union Street.
I was in Aberdeen yesterday to meet with friends and so I took the opportunity of taking a quick tour of the recently opened gardens.
Same as above, what a lovely composition
Crossing fingers that come spring it would be stunning!
It does sound like an awful lot of money when so many needy people are around.
A wonderful contrast between old and new- I guess it will take time for folks to warm up to the place- but it will probably gain popularity come warmer weather. Good shot!
