Charlie's Illness by janeandcharlie

Charlie's Illness

Charlie’s illness began in July of 2016 with a painful back. It got worse by the week. He went through many tests including biopsies, all of which showed a spreading mass but indicated no presence of an infection. The oncologist said it was a hard-to-reach, unusual, life-threatening cancer of the spine. By September, Charlie could no longer work. Our hospital, the largest in the state, transferred him to the university one because ours had no surgeon who could handle the upcoming ordeal. After the transfer and a week in the hospital, he was diagnosed with a staph infection of the spine. He was discharged with a pic line to his heart for the next six weeks. The infection is now gone, though his spine has sustained damage. He has improved quite a bit this summer, and we are riding our tandem again.
The best thing about 2016 was the birth of our 7th grandchild last summer, a little boy.
One day as my daughter and I were leaving the hospital feeling very discouraged, a double rainbow appeared. It gave us hope.
Glad to see you back, friend. Will be praying for Charlie!

Jane I am so happy you are back on 365! It sounds like it has been a difficult year with your Mom's passing and Charlie's health, but I am so happy that Charlie is doing better! I will keep you all in my prayers. Again, so happy you are back!!

@alophoto @mbemis @linnypinny @harbie Thank you so much for welcoming me back. It is sort of embarrassing to come back after just leaving as I did. I appreciate your compassion for the events in this collage as well as the photo from yesterday.

Poor Charlie. Poor Jane. What a journey you've had to take. My Kel too faced the cancer journey in 2016. But he too is now recovering and we are taking a more considered view of life. Let's see what 2017 has to offer. Let's hope its better than 2016.

Welcome back Jane. I've often thought of you but didn't expect to read such painful news. you've gone through so much heartache during the last year. I'm so happy to know your husband is doing better. I know what it is to have a life threatening disease. my husband went through one called plastomycosis.
so glad your husband is doing so much better now.
