Acoma--#5 in a Series

As our guide led us through the streets of the little village atop the mesa, various artists would display their work. This is renowned potter, Emil Chino. Look at the pots and their many colors. Part of this is natural dyes in the paint, and part is the technique used for baking. The artists use natural yucca plant ends for paintbrushes. The geometry is all by eye. Straight from him without a middleman, each of these pots cost $500 or more. At the galleries, they would be much more and an investment that would hold its value. With a purchase, you get a paper with the biography of the artist and all the awards he/she has won. Acoma pottery is prestigious, as are those from other pueblos as well.
What artistic talent.

After reading your narrative I've decided I would be looking and not buying! Their creation is quite a process.

How lovely to read the details, thank you. Those pots look amazing and such skill to paint by hand.

Thank you so much for commenting on my photo of Emil Chino, the Acoma Pueblo potter. I really liked the pot with the flowers around the rim because I've never seen one quite like it, but it was very expensive, so we just walked on by.
