El Santuario de Chimayo Christmas Luminarias, New Mexico, USA
“No one can visit such places as Truchas, Cordova, Trampas and Chimayó and not sense the timeliness of the luminaria, not only as festive lighting but as the spiritual need for belongingness.”

Thanks so much for commenting on my photo of the Christmas luminarias atop the adobe walls of El Santuario de Chimayo. This little humble, remote, old mountain church is the destination of many pilgrimages and is known for its stories of miraculous healings. On the cold night that I took this, there were few pilgrims yet many professional and amateur photographers.
