Home now and reflecting on our trip, the natural beauty of Ohiopyle State Park comes easily to mind — the Youghiogheny River rushing over the rocks in the heart of town, Cucumber Falls just as beautiful as when we hiked there 40 years ago, the thrill of finding trillium in bloom and not just the white but the seldom-seen red!
The campers down the road hung a birdfeeder, and why didn’t I think of that? We loved the singing male Northern Cardinal and perky little Chipping Sparrow that visited our site, and our sighting of a courting pair of Eastern Towhees made our long walk all the more wonderful. We’re going back in October — and we’ll have a freshly-filled birdfeeder in tow!
