I've learned quite a bit about hawthorns this year, including that they are also called mayflower trees; and because they symbolize hope, the hope-filled Pilgrims chose to name their famous ship "The Mayflower." I like now knowing these things and, also, that bees visit a hawthorn's springtime blossoms to gather nectar and pollen for making honey.
I found this hawthorn just off to the right of the heavy bench. When I gaze at this image, I feel the breeze I battled with a 1/640 sec. shutter speed and I hear the clear melody of the Wood Thrush who so graciously serenaded me on this beautiful walk along our trails. Photography is magic like that.
