Rhythm by janetb

Rhythm

Lately, I find myself thinking about the annual rhythm of life here on the hill. After the holidays, January and February brought time to recharge — a slower pace, late dinners, and cozy evenings relaxing in front of a fire. Now with the arrival of March, things rev up around here as spring cleaning begins. Cleaning one room per day makes my task manageable by allowing time for other activities. I love the predictability of the rhythm, so I welcome the change of pace and the trip down memory lane that working in each room will provide!

With today being laundry day, starting the cleaning in the laundry room seemed logical. One wouldn't think a laundry room would hold many special memories, but these galvanized pails hanging in the corner hold plenty. Just for fun years ago, I began putting all coins found in the dryer into these buckets. Whichever child checked the buckets got to keep the coins. Often, dollar bills and, sometimes, larger bills made it into the buckets. John checked the buckets most frequently and was sometimes richly rewarded! This simple idea added more laughs to our lives than I ever could have imagined.

I praise you, Lord, for a home to care for — a home filled with so many special memories.
I love to read your stories revealing just how much of a home maker you are Janet. And I admire the sense of pride with which you care for your home and garden. I wonder if the pails served a function beyond the containment of rescued coins for the family to rediscover? They look great from this pov with the enticing yellow painted walls behind.
