Reminiscing

Many trophies once sat proudly on the various surfaces in John’s bathroom. Now with him grown up and on his own, only the memory of those displays remains; but thankfully, fun memories of his games, tournaments, and competitions remain, too. When recalling his years as an athlete, we all smile as "pure joy" comes to mind! John turns 30 in three months and laughs at the aches and pains he feels after suiting up in his old goalie equipment for an adult ice hockey game with his buddies. Ice hockey now often involves the need for an ice pack. :)

I reminisced as I cleaned this room today while enjoying its abundance of natural light. The rockers on the upper porch just outside this big window reminded me of our annual holiday trips to Oglebay, West Virginia, where we all greatly enjoyed stepping outdoors onto a balcony first thing in the morning. Those times inspired the design of our home with an upper porch, and how does 20 years go by so fast? We moved here in the year 2000.

It's always nice to picture the happy memories attached to places and things - there are so many places I go that I use to go with Bill and they do bring happy memories of fun times - and I am very blessed to have those.

My goal of capturing a photo of something special about each room I spring clean is really taking me on a trip down memory lane. It’s amazing how fast time goes and how things change. Janet, I just love this series. You bring each room to life with your photo and words. Here I can envisage the trophies so proudly displayed and the enjoyment of times gone by. Memories are so powerful and should be treasured and you do this so beautifully.
