This little footpath goes from just outside our house to the church. It is called Tinker Tank (spelt Tink-a-Tank by some) and it is thought that the name comes from the sounds made by the hobnail boots that were worn by the local quarrymen on their way down to the local pub hundreds of years ago.
Whenever I go down there I always think of the people who must have walked there before - people going to church, to their own weddings, family funerals etc
@northy Well Northy, I thought I knew why they are called kissing gates but thought thatbefore I answerd I had better check in case I was making a fool of myself. Just as well I did really. There seem to be several theories. My understanding tended towards the romantic, but it seems that the name could come from an engineering term......... http://www.guardian.co.uk/notesandqueries/query/0,5753,-24779,00.html
You have chose the right look for this path! The high stone walls and the informal planting on either side of the path! It's history and it's beautiful
What a great looking spot! Love the textures and all that green. It feels like a special place, bursting with life and possibilities. Fabulous capture. 8)
