this looks a lot better on a black background (i.e. viewed large)
Went over to my Mum and Dad's today with a plan to try and find something bleak and grey to photograph to reflect the dismal grey cold weather we are having at the moment. (Reading this back it does sound a bit like I think my parents are bleak and grey - they aren't, I meant find something on the way home.)
I don't think I really see the photographic potential in grey bleakness, or even bleak greyness, like many of the talented people on here do. The only thing that really caught my eye was this postbox which was almost buried in ivy on a wall.
I drove back the long way because I didn't want to miss any of the excellent Radio 4 afternoon play that was on today. Part two of a three parter, the best one I have heard on there for ages.
Three good things:
The goldfinches seem to have worked out how to get the Nyger seeds out of the feeder I bought for them about six weeks ago. Four on there for large spells of time this morning
The online weather forecast which says that things might brighten up a bit for a few hours tomorrow afternoon (scared to look at it again in case it has changed)
Ha ha I find I drive the long way back from anywhere since starting 365!! That ivy has been beautifully clipped to within an inch of its life...I wonder if the PO does it or council? Lovely cheering splash of colour
You are feeling exactly the same as me - in search of something red and cheerful. I am feeling better already looking at this lovely bright post box - I cant see any grey atall. I think I am now in the clutches of S.A.D.
This is so cheerful, I've had enough grey to last me! Love the splash of colour.Saying that if you get time have a look at the GREY wall I posted today.
I love the pop of red. You have found that patience pays off with the goldfinches and the nyger. They always take a while to get used to where new food can be found but you will probably have them as regular visitors from now on.
@fannyb Pretty sure it will be people in the village where I saw it. A v small and well kept place. People who live in our village mow the greens and verges. If the council ever get anywhere near them then they just butcher them.
You are like me much prefer colour!!! The good old English post box never fails to put a smile on our faces!!!
Our goldfinches still haven't found our nyger seed, the feeder ran out of it when we were away ..I think they are still sulking & haven't come back yet!
@happypat They do that don't they? I am keeping everything topped up at the moment because my brother is coming over on Saturday and I want everything on parade because he and I have an ongoing competition for the most interesting bird table - sad, I know!
We have both sought solace in a post box today. Yours is altogether more refined than mine and has a suitably exotic situation. @streetlyend I am going to start self-harming if the weather doesn't improve soon! (I don't think self-harming had been invented when I was a teenager - maybe I will go for chocolate/wine binging instead.)
