A busy day and another filler (well it is filler Friday after all) This is another non-macro shot taken with my Canon 100mm f2.8 macro lens. I have only just discovered how much I like using it for non close-ups.
The day got off to an exciting start when Sam and I checked out the International Garden Photographer of the Year website. We had both entered pictures into the competition and heard a few months ago that we had each been shortlisted, and then about a month ago that we had each won an award.
Sam, who had a FIVE DAY(!) 365 project last year - (5 project?) had come second in the Young Garden Photographer of the Year section, and I was one of ten winners in the 'New Shoots' section which showcases the work of people who have not entered the competition before. My picture had been entered into a category called 'Breathing Spaces.' All very exciting, especially as the competition as a whole had over seventeen thousand entrants.
Sam's photo will form part of an exhibition which will be on display at various places, including Kew Gardens, in this and other countries. In typical 12 year old style he is more interested in the cash element of the prize.
Today's Boring Bird Table Bulletin (TBBTB) first sighting of a greenfinch on the feeder.
Yay you & Sam! That's brilliant - they're lovely shots. And stiff competition too. Nice one. Will they be displayed in hard copy at Kew? We've been meaning to visit for a while now - that would be another incentive.
@jewelsandbinoculars I THINK that Sam's will be at Kew, but either way the exhibition should be really good, there are some incredible images among the winners - a lot of quite 'arty' stuff - very inspiring. Not sure of the dates for Kew, but the exhibition will be at the Bankside Gallery in July (8th - 13th)
Glorious sunset! Plus that little shimmery splash of pink in the puddles.
Congrats to both you and your son on the photo contest. What a proud time for your family. :-)
Nice filler too, but then they are always are.
