Lots of cooking today as we had my brother and his family and my parents over, for a multifunctional meal. 'Multifunctional' because it was staged in aid of celebrating my Dad's birthday (Feb 13th,) Graham's Birthday (25th Feb,) My Mum's birthday (today) and as a way of making up for the fact that we have completely messed up plans for next Sunday's Mothers' Day by inviting twenty odd people round for food and six nations rugby watching on that day.
Graham and I attempted to produce a South East Asian dining extravaganza by making Thai fishcakes, barbecued spare ribs, black pepper beef, which turned out to be lamb (note to self - must improve my freezer labeling skills, at least it wasn't horse I suppose) chicken with cashew nuts, Kai Lan with oyster sauce and chilli fish (in the stylee of Singaporean chilli crab.) Angus made Siew Mai - always a winner!
This was all topped off with bananas covered in sesame seeds and tongue-lacerating caramelised sugar and a completely non-Asian but, although I say it myself, pretty scrumptious chocolate orange marble cake. And ice cream.
Much fun, laughs, calories and alcohol was had by all. Well, in the case of alcohol, all but the children (as far as we know.)
TBBTB (today's boring bird table bulletin) - A pair of siskins paid us their first visit this morning - have to admit that I needed to look them up. Call myself a zoologist?
Great photo. I love the composition with the negative space. Our family has alot of birthdays in December. It's bad enough with Christmas without having a load of birthdays as well (including mine).
I do love it when you do this composition - I'm just wondering how many different animals you can get - I can feel a series coming on. Meal sounds amazing! T'will be fish pie for my mum and dad as mum said, 'Nothing fancy - it upsets my pills'!
oh and happy birthday to, well, everyone, by the sounds of it!
@mwbc He is probably saying, "Okay, so I will talk while you get my profile." LOL :D
