run out of titles again - maybe a sign that I have done too many poppy pics....
My aunt and uncle who I haven't seen for 33 years are over from Australia. They are staying with family in Liverpool which is where most of my family live and where I was born. This weekend they and lots of other family members are down here visiting my parents and last night 25 of us went for a meal in one of the pubs in their village. I had such a lovely time and the evening was topped off with the surprise appearance of two of my cousins who unbeknown to anybody had come over from Australia for two weeks.
Today everybody came over here and I had one of my absolute favourite kinds of day - loads of lovely people here, perfect weather and the garden in almost full bloom. I just loved looking out and seeing little groups of people dotted about having a lovely time. I had tried to keep the cooking side of things as simple as possible so made two enormous lasagnes with garlic bread and salad followed by two kinds of home made ice cream (lemon meringue and rhubarb crumble flavours - both yum tho I say so myself - thanks Delia) and strawberries and cream.
I have been left with a very flat and slightly melancholy feeling now that everybody has gone home. Wonder if I will ever see my Aunt and Uncle again.
Sounds like an absolutely perfect weekend. Maybe when you look at this absolutely perfect photo, you'll always remember the fun and family. Lovely colours and composition and pov. FAV.
Family is such a blessing! And what a wonderful hostess you are! I am sure they enjoyed your lovely garden and made many happy memories there! LOVE the phtoto! Fav!
Absolutely beautiful. It does look great on black. I really enjoyed your wonderful story. I know how you feel - drained of all emotion, I imagine. But, what a wonderful time you had!
So delicate and pretty, wonderful with the sun behind them. When can I come and stay? You sound like the perfect host with a beautiful home and garden thrown into the mix. Have a large glass of wine and an early night
Oh good, so glad good times were had by all. I'm basically spending a year having unoriginal ageing + motherhood-related discoveries, but one of them has been how much more important family (and friends, and community...) feel to me now as opposed to even a few years back.
It's a beautiful picture - I like the sense of sunlight. Fav.
Oh - I love that sort of gathering as well (usually preceded by an expensive trip to the garden centre in order to achieve the full bloom part). I think a trip to Australia might be essential to stave off the melancholy.
