After the clear-up following last night's party goings-on and feeding Angus and his four friends who stayed the night copious amounts of bacon, eggs, sausages and all the trimmings we decided to reward ourselves with a leisurely stroll with the donks.
As our nephew Richard was staying over we thought that it would be a good idea to take all four of them with him leading the plodding old boys and Graham and I taking the slightly more lively Jack and Lilly. Getting out of the field with four of them, whilst leaving the goats in the field to await our return was not quite as simple as we had anticipated, especially because in a fit of madness I decided to just take Jack on his head collar rather than the bridle with a bit in his mouth (a hasty purchase after I was dragged most of the way home by him one day) that he usually wears. This resulted in me having to change him from his head collar to the bridle in the footpath outside the field while the escaped pygmy goats ran around us and between our legs as Graham tried not very successfully to get them back into the field.
By the time we had all set off, after several rounds of us all traipsing back into the field to get the goats back in there, and the young donks working themselves up into something as much like a state of prancing agitatedness as they are capable and us almost abandoning the whole enterprise several times, we eventually set of on what turned out to be quite a pleasant stroll.
As usual the donks saw no reason to walk past the end of road where the pub is and we didn't take much persuading to follow them into the pub garden where they awaited the telltale rustle of the peanut packet that Graham had brought out for them.
Shortly after we arrived the landlady came outside with the new barman, who had just said to her, 'you know, I am sure that I just saw four donkeys walk into the garden' to which she had replied, 'ah yes, that will be the Hall family.' Poor boy thought he had been hallucinating.
Great shot, and I love the story behind it! Would love to see you all on the leisurely stroll with the donks to the pub! Sounds like the goats wanted to come too!
Oh this really made me laugh - I could just picture what you were saying and it could have been made into a Carry On film! Great shot of this donk though and I like the smell of apples being in the cider! A very refreshing drink. Btw Fav
