For the past few days I have had intentions of going out to take photos towards the end of the day, but I have either left it too late or it has started to rain, so this morning I made the decision that I would go out as soon as the children went off to school and I had fed the animals. The flooding round here is terrible, but not as bad as many parts of the country where people have lost their homes or livelihoods. The worst that I have to worry about is being knee deep in mud when I go to feed the animals, and the likelihood of my tulip bulbs rotting in the ground. Tulips like a well drained soil, and there is no such thing around here at the moment.
These fields are on the edge of a village called Broughton. They form part of the estate of Broughton Castle which dates from the Medieval period and is the home of the Fiennes family AKA the baron of Saye and Seale. It has been used as the location for filming lots of period films and TV dramas. I have taken a few photos here over the past couple of years, and must go and visit the castle itself some time this year.
Gorgeous shot - wonderful b&w! I'm seeing so many crazy pics about the flooding in the news. Over the last week - we were the opposite - totally frozen with historic low temps (winchill -40C) and now we're soaring all the way up to 8C! I think by the end of the weekend we're going to look like that as well (and everyone is worried)!
Great shot but I feel for all those who have been flooded. Have a friend who is measuring his good luck in "inches" and is waiting for the river to go down.
Yes, I looked at the gate to the pasture and thought "this is not supposd to be a lake". A gorgeous capture, with the birds topping it off. Mother Nature has certainly been having some nasty moods in the last few years. I feel so bad for everyone this affects.
I though we were looking at a lake until I read the first line of your text! We don't suffer much with floods up here so it's very easy for me to forget how things are further south. This is a beautiful scene, the line of trees and the reflection are brilliant and I like the gate in the foreground. It looks great in black and white too.
I know Broughton Castle well - it's one of my favourite places - and had been wondering how it looked in this weather. The Castle reopens at Easter, but as it's down a steep slope it probably looks a lot like this too at the moment.
Lovely capture, really beautiful Broughton Gardens are really worth visiting too. There were lots of horses in paddocks around the estate then, hope they've got somewhere dry to go to! A stunning b&w image. Is this edited in Niksilver? I've been dithering about getting it...
Oh, I've just remembered. I think it was Broughton Manor gardens we went to? I saw Broughton castle from the air when I had a flying lesson from Kidlington a few years ago, it's the one with the moat isn't it?
