worm's eye view

I love my 7D and have no regrets about the choice of camera I made when upgrading. I did have one large reservation beforehand tho. I used the articulated screen on my previous camera A LOT and that is something that the 7D doesn't have. I must admit I do really miss it.

I have recently had a few goes at 'shooting blind' - holding the camera in a low or high position where it isn't possible to look through the viewfinder. I have liked the results and the interesting perspective it allows you to get. I did lots of this today but thought more carefully about my aperture size and used a bit of fill in flash from the onboard flash. It made such a difference.

I am going to do lots more of this type of photography. It is great fun and gives some really unexpected results - lots of misses, but you do very quickly get used to it and have more hits than misses. I always shoot using just one central focus point which I suppose added to the to the number of out of focus shots. Next time I will remember to use the multiple autofocus points.

Angus had the last of his mock AS exams yesterday. He sat in the hall with about a hundred other students. He and about ten others were taking the AS level paper in Design Technology. When they turned it over none of the questions related to anything they had ever studied before. After a few minutes one of his friends turned round and they just shrugged at each other. After a few more minutes Angus put his hand up and told the invigilator that they had been given the wrong paper, he had noticed that this one said 'Graphic Design', rather than design technology on the front. The invigilator said that they had to carry on with it. After another twenty minutes their DT teacher came in and shame-facedly told them that it was indeed the wrong paper. SO, the mocks aren't over at all. They've got to do the right paper next week.
Jan brilliant shot! Love the vibrant colours and worms eye view. Eye catching!

This is such a wonderful shot! Did you use some flash here? Everything is so striking... The color, DOF, POV, focus. I just love it.

Great chickens.

this is such fun - and wow for poor Angus - that's pretty horrific

@hollymays Thanks Holly, yes I used a bit of fill in flash from the camera's on-board flash. It really did make a lot of difference.

Great pov! Wonderful focus and color. Crazy story about the wrong exam!!! Wishing Angus good luck on the next try!

A fantastic shot and I love your pov.

Terrific shot. I am so glad that you are having a lot of fun with your 7D. I didn't have any joy with mine (noisy, muddy colours, poor focussing) and I know that @padlock had the same issues. From the number of folks I know who have suffered similar problems I fear that some of the early ones had issues. Not that Canon would admit it, of course

For blind shooting this image is marvellous!

great one Jan :-)

I love this! Very sharp and clear and GREAT perspective. Fav
I can't believe the invigilator said that they had to carry on with the wrong paper instead of investigating it! Crazy!

This is wonderful detail. The fill in flash (I assume you used it here) really makes a wonderful difference. I love it!

Love this shot, saw it trending .... Whoop whoop. Poor angus, that sounded like a horrible moment especially as they were told to carry on, that is what nightmares are made of. Fav

Oh, my, poor kids! That's a disgrace. As if they weren't nervous enough about exams! Great shot - LOVE the POV.

Great shot. Glad angus' story had a happy ending

Brilliant. Fav!

I was convinced you'd taken this lying flat on your stomach in the chicken poop ...something I've contemplated with our birds! But now I know from your narrative that it's possible to take birds-eye-level shots without the need to jump in the shower after :0) Thank you for sharing your photography methods and this fabulous photo. Fav.

Great shot and you do seem to get the best out of the 7D. I just couldn't get on with it. Re Angus that is terrible, I presume there will be no comeback on the teacher who got it wrong. I know it is not an easy job but surely something must be said/done about a gaff like that.

Great shot, love the POV and bright colours.

this feels very much like an advertisement, in a good way. iconic, very well exposed, quirky with a message, and a well executed background to show its relevance in the larger scene of things.

Love the title. This is one thing I haven't really done, I'm going to have to smarten and try it...after the snow if gone. This really turned out well but it makes me miss my chickens! Can't wait until May when we can order our chicks...haven't had chickens for months now and I miss the fresh eggs. As for the camera, I'm very happy with my 7D. And as for Angus, at least he spoke up rather than suffering through it all, teachers are human and can be wrong as he well proved.

Excellent vivid colours. Shocking exam cock up even if only the mocks.

Wonderful colours and detail!

poor thin g having to go on with exams - must have been stomach churning experience but maybe chance to bone up on more stuff that he needs for the proper exam - like this blind perspective stuff

Fantastic colours here. Poor Angus! That's like something straight from an exam-anxiety-dream. It's made me feel nervy on his behalf just thinking about it.
March 14th, 2014
@jewelsandbinoculars ahh, if only he 'did' nervy....... he really doesn't give a s**t but has got away with it so far and I fear it is going to come and bite him on the bum before long.
