For many years, we had a flowering cherry tree in the back yard, but due to growth in other trees blocking the sun (and a beetle I think) it sickened and died, leaving only a stump until the soft interior decomposed leaving only the bark ring. This year some new seedlings are sprouting up (not the cherry but a few volunteers from the adjacent Mendocino ash) taking residence in the bark ring. The circle of life continues

This is a beautiful shot with natural framing around the new tree.It seems to be reaching for the light - which is gorgeous.
So nice to see new life spring up from where there was none. They have chosen a great and protective spot to spring up in.
