I met Sarah at the University of MD in the late 1970s when we were the only women in most of our math classes. This afternoon I biked to Vienna to eat lunch with her. On my way home, I photographed my shadow.
It was hard to frame the shot, so I stopped several times to make sure I had at least part of the shadow in the image. I tried Av mode at first then decided I should shift to Tv mode to allow time to show movement. I didn't have my reading glasses, so I couldn't tell if the focus was sharp or evaluate how long a shutter speed I needed. This one was 1/40 of a second. It is probably my favorite even though the shade is about to gobble up my shadow.
Next time I'll try to get the shadow on my right so my camera doesn't show. I took a few that way, but ran out of sunny bike path before I got a good one. I didn't like the way my backpack made my shadow look so I may try again with a tighter jersey and no pack on my back.
It looks more dangerous than it was. I waited until I had the trail to myself, then just pointed the camera and shot blind. I didn't try to look at the camera while I was photographing. I've done this before but not recently and not with my relatively new pocket camera.
WOW over and over again! The lighting...the shadows...the movement and I like the strength shown in your arm on the handlebars. Nicely done and creative! I am just catching up with some of your photos!
