Pretty much the middle of nowhere. It is in the Nevada desert, south of Las Vegas by about an hour. I saw the Nelson Ghost Town featured in a seminar on Kelbyone.com where they were doing something called "Extraction" photography. Since I was spending two weeks in western Arizona I took a day to drive up there and back.
